Bill Johnson Profile
By: Joe Rivet

Bill Johnson, Sports information director at LSC, has been involved with sports for most of his life.
Johnson is originally from the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York where he became a fan of the Baseball team the dodgers and developed a “Genetically induced hatred of the Yankees.” When Johnson moved to Vermont, he also became a red sox fan. “I’m not sure if that’s because everyone else here is a red sox fan or if it’s just because it gives me another reason to hate the Yankees.” Johnson said.
He graduated from LSC in 1987 with a degree in sports management, and says that it’s great to be back. “I like to watch the students go through what I did when I went to school here.” Johnson said.
Before becoming a basketball coach, Johnson held many other sports related positions. He was the sports editor for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise/Lake Placid News, sports information director at Paul Smith’s college and Facility supervisor & intramural Athletic Director at North Country.
Johnson has been a successful basketball coach for 16 years now, and has led his teams to the playoffs 14 times. During his time in sports, he has also coached or recruited over 25 conference All-Star selections. During this time, he has won more than 200 games, and set a record for the most consecutive wins in the Northern Independence Conference. Johnson’s record still stands today at 31.
Johnson also teaches courses at LSC in the State College Sports management and physical education curriculums.
Johnson is excited to be a part of the LSC sports department, and likes the direction it is moving in. “It’s and exciting time to be at LSC,” Johnson said. “I’m enjoying making the changes we need to make to be competitive in the NCAA.”
In his spare time, Johnson enjoys listening to music. Anything from 70s and 80s rock and roll to smooth Jazz. He also takes opportunities to go to any baseball game and basketball games because he has a lot of experience in the game.
